What’s new in Android 12 Beta

What’s new in Android 12 Beta

A new UI for Android

Android 12 brings the biggest design change in Android's history. The whole experience is reshaped to make it more personal and dynamic in an expressive way, starting with the colors, shapes, light and motion, unifying the entire experience under a single design language called Material You.

Material You Language

Material You explores a more humanistic approach to design. It attempts to create designs that are personal for every style, accessible for every need, alive and adaptive for every screen. Users customize their desktops in the physical and digital worlds with images that are personal and provide comfort and joy.

Redesigned widgets

Widgets corners are redesigned to be a bit more rounded that gives an overall cleaner look. Along with adding the new interactive controls like checkboxes, switches and radio buttons to make it more personal. Also dynamic color APIs are added so that the widgets can use system colors to create a personalized but consistent look.

What’s new in Android Privacy

Privacy Dashboard:

People want an OS that they can trust with their most personal and sensitive information. Moreover, Android is working on reducing the extent where the apps have access to the data, so that it accesses only the data they need for the features they provide.

With the new Privacy Dashboard, users will have a simple and clear timeline view of the last 24 hour accesses to location, microphone and camera. The Privacy dashboard will be available to try in Beta 2.

Approximate Location:

In Android 12, users will have more control over their location data. They will be able to precisely select an approximate location to any app.

Clipboard read Notification:

Android 12 notifies users every time an app reads from their clipboard as the content copied to the clipboard can contain sensitive information as users frequently copy emails, addresses, and even passwords. Users will see a toast at the bottom of the screen each time an app calls. Clipboard read notification will be available to try in Beta 2.
